A packed weekend of track action…

 

The third edition of the Miami Grand Prix is set to be a busy weekend of racing. For the first time the Miami International Autodrome will host a Sprint — the second of six to be held in 2024. That will guarantee three days of competitive action at a track that enjoys plenty of overtaking thanks to its three DRS zones. There were 45 officially recorded passes in year one and 52 last year.

 


…at a track that features a fake marina and beach

 

One of the highlights of the temporary circuit in Miami Gardens is the marina located on the inside of Turn 7. Featuring full-scale yachts, spectators can soak up the race action on deck, but they’ll have no chance of floating away as the water around the boats is just a blue vinyl flooring. If you want more of a party atmosphere, head to Turn 11 where the Beach Club features A-list music acts such as Ed Sheeran, and fans can drink cocktails in cabanas on imported sand right next to the circuit.

 


The return of F1 Academy

 

After the opening rounds in Saudi Arabia in March, the all-female F1 Academy series visits Miami for the first time — and leading the championship is our Alpine Academy racer Abbi Pulling. The 21-year-old has an 11-point lead at the top of the drivers’ standings after leaving Jeddah with a win and a second-place finish. Abbi knows the Miami Gardens venue well having raced there in W Series back in 2022, where she finished the race with the fastest lap. Coverage of the two races is on the F1 Academy YouTube channel. Race one is 2pm (local time) on Saturday with race two 1pm (local time) on Sunday.

The Miami International Autodrome is a short drive from the beautiful, palm-tree lined Miami Beach. This famous district is well-known for its colonial-style buildings and white, sandy beaches — and the popular shopping district along Lincoln Road. But there are other areas of the city that are worth a visit, from the colourful murals located in the Wynwood neighbourhood to the Cuban culture of Little Havana. However, if music is your thing, then we suggest a visit to the vibrant bars and clubs on South Beach where you can enjoy sets from some of the world’s most-famous DJs.

Miami is known internationally for its great food, which is a fusion of tastes from across South Florida and beyond. Much of this great cuisine will feature on the Campus of the Miami International Autodrome with as many as 60 restaurants bringing their flavours to the race track. Pick up tacos from Bodega or Harry’s Pizza from chef Michael Schwartz, or there’s brisket and barbecue, croquetas, fresh sushi, seafood such as Ella’s Oysters and finally a range of drinks are available with famous cocktails from the many gin and rum bars on site too.
